Elementary School education

In partnership with Spay Neuter Network, the Humane Society, and the City of Fort Worth, The Saving Hope Foundation supports an animal welfare and responsible pet ownership education initiative for elementary school children in low-income areas of Fort Worth. They are able to educate children through age-appropriate presentations at elementary schools and after school events. This initiative prepares that next generation of pet owners and helps create lasting change for animals.

More information:

  • In 2019-2020, the program provided 137 pet care and dog safety programs to more than 13,842 students in Fort Worth.

  • When the pandemic shut everything down in March 2020, we revamped our programs for online learning. Even though schools didn’t resume in-person lessons that spring or fall, summer camps and after-school programs called on us to speak to their students about responsible pet care.

  • Each student who attends a program receives a voucher for free spay/neuter services at the Clinic and literature on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.

  • The Education Initiative also provides each student in two of the lower grade levels (either K-1 or grades 1-2) with a book, available in English and Spanish, to aid the instructional lessons. These books cover what all pets need to be healthy and happy in their homes in a compare and contrast format making it easier for younger students to grasp these humane concepts.

"Spay Squad Walks”

With Spay Neuter Network, the Foundation conducts “Spay Squad Walks” through low-income neighborhoods and holds outreach events to educate people on the importance of sterilizing pets, while also scheduling surgeries, vaccinations, and transportation to the Clinic, if needed.

Since July 1, 2019 the Campaign’s marketing team has conducted over 16,000 face-to-face conversations with residents in low income areas of Fort Worth and dropped off information on spay/neuter at more than 11,500 of their homes.
